We play with: Benetton Basket (Treviso, Italy)

Tuesday afternoon, from 12.00 till 13.00 by local time, "Spartak" has spent the practice in the sport palace "Palaverde". This non-remarkable building in the suburb of Treviso is the base of BC Benetton for many years.

At first sight a hall and subsidiary premises seem a little comfortable and even inconvenient. Seats without the backs, no any decor, low ceilings in a corridor. But all these things are only visibility. As players, coaches and staff admit id very pleasantly to be in "Palaverde". The small gym, according to our physical coach Georgy Artemiev, is recognized as one of the best in Europe. And our Gosha saw many halls. In it there is all necessary for preparation and restoration of basketball players and volleyball players. Not without reason here many teams spend training camps. Russian national team was here before the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The variety of balls amaze a sight. About them in general it is necessary to write a separate material. A locker room for visitors is simple but with a lot of space. With a usual tile on walls, without any special conveniences. The game hall in general entirely consists of concrete panels, whose grey colour decorates only green seats. But, as Anton Yudin has truly noted, people create the atmosphere of the hall, how they support the team. The arena "Palaverde" saw many the significant moments in the history of basketball, excellent battles, and support of the filled hall also was here. How will be today?

History: The club was founded in 1954 and in 7 years, in 1961, was in series А1. Though soon it has taken off. In a season 1980-81 the team again appeared in the high division of the championships of Italy, and almost in that time the club has been bought by "Benetton Group". Since then it is called BC "Benetton" though according to documents, the club has the historical name «Basketball of Treviso. At first the team even played in Padua because in Treviso there was no the palace for games and practices of the club of elite level. But in 1982 family Benetton has presented to the club the palace "Palaverde".
With Benetton's considerable financial support the club in 1990-s became one of the leaders in Europe. In 1992 BC Benettton won the first title of the champion of Italy. In the roster there was legendary Toni Kukoc. Kukoc has helped Benetton to reach the Euroleague final in 1993. By the way, that final won the French Limoges in which the head coach of Spartak Jurij Zdovc was.
1990-s and the beginning of 2000-s were marked for Benetton by victories in the championship and the Cup of Italy. Twice the club won Saporta Cup. Such known coaches, as Zeljko Obradovic, Ettore Messina, David Blatt were the head coaches of the team.
Recession of results of the team during last years in many reasons are connected with reduction of financing of the club.
