In the Final Four of Russian Cup
“Spartak” won at home the second quarterfinal game of the Russian Cup against “Universitet Yugra” - 83-69.
In the first quarterfinal match of the Russian Cup “Spartak” prevailed in Surgut — 81-67, and the return match in Saint-Petersburg was more of a practice game. But despite that, the hosts' starting five looked as if they were opposing “Khimki”, which will be faced by Jurij Zdovc's team soon, on Saturday, February 18. The Petersburg team began the game for the Russian Final Four entrance with the following line-up: Beverley, Kotishevskiy, Likhodey, Zupan and Kashirov.
It was Kashirov, having defended the honor of “Universitet” after leaving “Spartak” several years ago, who stood out for his activity and, consequently, his effectiveness. In the first minutes the Russian center scored six points. But overall, the first quarter was not to be entered on the credit side of our team, as the outclassed guests forced, with an enormous will, the “Spartak” players to make mistakes.
Be that as it may, only thanks to a 3-points shoot of Strelnieks the score before the second quarter was decent -16-12. In general, the game had an equal nature.
In the third quarter Halperin and Sergeev appeared on the court for the first time. The latter scored a long-range hit within minutes. Five points in a row were gained by Likhodey, and the guests fell behind by 21 points. All the guests could muster was reducing the lead marginally.
As a result, a “Spartak” victory - 83-69.
15 points and 4 assists mark the game of Lukas Mavrokefalidis. Miha Zupan scored 4 points and picked up 3 rebounds. 10 points and 3 rebounds are by Anatoliy Kashirov.
